Smoke gets in the water

BREAKING NEWS!
Word was received at HWC Headquarters today of a late-entry celebrity who has signed up to take the Arctic Plunge at Riverside Casino and Golf Resort in Riverside on Saturday. Sources confirm that Smoke Dog, faithful companion of HWC athlete Mike Zadick, will join his master in a bid to raise a bucketful of cash for the Hawkeye Wrestling Club.
Smoke, age 8(ish), is a border collie who patrols and protects the Zadick acreage in rural Iowa City. True to his breed, Smoke's been known to round up chickens, cows, and an occasional raccoon, which makes him a natural to keep everyone in line at the Arctic Plunge. When he's not keeping the wildlife in check, he enjoys playing fetch and being petted.
But what prompted this hard-working canine to nose into the Plunge picture? We got the scoop straight from the collie's mouth. "Mike's been spending all his time raising money for this Arctic Plunge thing, and he's hardly had a minute to play fetch or help me round up the chickens," Smoke complained.
"I figured if you can't beat 'em, join 'em," Smoke added. "Besides, why should Mike have all the fun? I'm an excellent swimmer, and with all this fur I'll sure be a lot warmer than those humans!"
Smoke will jump with Hawkeye head coaches Tom Brands and Kirk Ferentz in the lead group. He's agreed to make himself available for pictures before and after the event. Even though he's already agreed to take the Plunge, you can show Smoke you're in his corner by pledging in his name at the Hawkeye Wrestling Club website.
