Sammy Brooks Wins U23 World Team Trials

Curious how your donations go to advance the mission of the Hawkeye Wrestling Club (HWC)?

This past weekend, Sammy Brooks, member of the Hawkeye Wrestling Club (HWC) and former Iowa Hawkeye All American won the U23 World Team Trials. Brooks will travel with Team USA to the World Freestyle Championships in Poland in November.

Brooks defeated Shabaka Johns, Nick Thompson, and Brett Pfarr to get to the finals. In the finals he won the first 2 matches of a best of 3 series to defeat Myles Martin.

Another member of the HWC, Alex Meyer, performed well in his first Greco Roman match since high school, placing 4th. Meyer was an All American at Iowa in 2016. Kamal Bey came back at the end to defeat Meyer with two big throws.

Coupled with Gilman’s showing in Paris, these performances inject further energy into the grand tradition of Iowa wrestling. With the help of HWC and donors like you, we are returning to our rightful place at the top of the world podium.
